Ismail Yakubu has been selected in this week’s official League Two Team of the Week.
Despite being forced off ten minutes from time due to injury, Yakubu, along with partner Sagi Burton were solid at the back at Chesterfield all afternoon, dealing with the constant threat of long-balls well and rarely gave the home side a sniff at goal; a firm foundation on which Barnet based their win.
The captain was troubled by injury early this season but he is hoping to put that behind him and not pick up anymore long-term injuries and lead his side for as many games as possible this season, especially since he is an important part of the first-team: Barnet have not lost whenever Yakubu has worn the armband this season.
Yakubu is the second Barnet player to have been selected in the Football League’s Team of the Week, with Jason Puncheon having already been chosen earlier this season for his excellent form.
No players from Barnet’s next two crucial home games, which come on Saturday and Tuesday against Rotherham Utd and Wycombe Wanderers, respectively, were selected in this week’s Team of the Week.
