Cover Lined Up

Jamie Stephens was brought in as cover for player-coach Graham Stack in the summer, as it is Stephens who had said he also wanted to challenge the Barnet no.1 for a first-team place had found himself the man with the gloves.

However, his sending off at the weekend leaves Barnet especially light with Martin Allen very keen to bring in someone with only 17-year-old Kai McKenzie-Lyle to call upon going into the weekend!

Stephens’ sending off against Portsmouth, and the injury to Stack, means the Bees will have to use U18 ‘keeper McKenzie-Lyle as things stand for Stevenage’s visit to the Hive.

Allen has spoken to the sending off, which he doesn’t think ‘was harsh’ at all, and has ‘someone in mind’ to come in and act as cover, speaking earlier this week to the Times-Series the Barnet boss had hoped to have a deal agreed by now.

‘I’ve got someone in mind and hopefully that should be tied up by Wednesday lunchtime.

‘I’ve reviewed the decision on the sending off and no, I don’t think it was harsh. I thought it was a yellow card for the tackle so I think the referee got that moment right.

‘Jamie is suspended for one game so we can`t do anything about that. Graham Stack won`t be available for this week so we have got to try to get one available for this week.’

It’s now Thursday morning and this deal hasn’t been tied up! It shouldn’t be panic stations just yet though should it.
