Bees Keeper signs on

Barnet’s 23 year old goalkeeper Rob Beckwith yesterday signed a new and improved contract with the Bees, ending speculation that he might leave at the end of his current deal.

Beckwith, who was scouted by Arsenal during his days at Luton, joined Barnet last August as understudy to club captain Lee Harrison, who also acts as Rob’s coach.

Rob made his debut on New Year’s Day against Wycombe after a poor run of form from Harrison and quickly established himself as the No.1 with a string of excellent performances – the highlight of which was unquestionably the penalty save in the Swindon shoot out which sent Barnet to the 4th Round of the FA Cup.

Unfortunately, two subsequent injuries curtailed his season and he only played 9 league matches as well as the 2 cup ties against Swindon.

He hopes to begin next season as No.1 and if he can stay fit, many Bees fans believe he could become the best keeper Barnet have had since Lee Harrison was first at the club nearly a decade ago.
