Gary Waddock has been speaking to the Official Website following his return to work with Barnet following an illness enforced layoff after a return to the Bees.

Martin Allen brought former QPR, Aldershot and Wycombe boss Waddock back to Barnet to act as his assistant last month but illness hospitalised him within days and he’s been sidelined since.

Waddock was taken seriously ill early on and ended up in hospital suffering an ‘acute inner-ear infection’ but after a few nights in hospital and a couple of weeks getting back to full fitness he’s back on the training pitch.

He said.

‘I wasn’t feeling the best and had to spend a couple of evenings in hospital.

‘The last few weeks have been very eventful and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. Slowly but surely, I’ve been able to get back to full fitness.’

This wasn’t ideal for Allen who brought the 53-year-old back to the club to work alongside him having lost his right hand man Adrian Whitbread last month when he took up a coaching challenge overseas.

Of course this wasn’t ideal for Waddock either! Fortunately alls well that ends well.

Waddock will be back in the dugout alongside Allen when Barnet return to the former club of both, Portsmouth, when the Bees head to Fratton Park on Saturday. Boss Allen, who played for them, and Waddock, who was assistant and then caretaker boss at the end of last season.
