It’s now officially a done deal, with this confirmed on the Official Website, Michael ‘the Admiral’ Nelson has signed for Barnet.

Something most had expected was the case anyway, despite Martin Allen playing this down….

Experienced defender Nelson, who was part of the Cambridge side to hold Man United last season, and counts the likes of Hartlepool and Norwich in his many clubs has signed for the Bees on a one-year deal.

This has now been confirmed with the 35-year-old, first and foremost, happy to get this deal confirmed but he’s not setting too many targets beyond nailing down a first-team place at the Hive, saying.

‘It is brilliant. It has been nice being down here from the start of pre-season with the boys, they have made me very welcome and I have settled in quite well. It is nice to have been here from the start and now everybody is just raring to go for the game next week.

‘I’ve made over 600 appearances at this level so I know what the league is about – both what it takes to survive in it and also get out of it so hopefully I can bring a little bit of that experience.

‘At the moment I am just concentrating on trying to be in that starting eleven next week.’

We couldn’t really ask for someone with any more experience than the Admiral could we? In the professional game, north and south of the border, for the best part of 15-years and having started in Non-League before.

The new Bees defender’s got more than enough experience at League 2 level to help us to hold our own upon our return to the Football League this season.
