Plugging the leaky defence is definitely something Barnet need to do if they are to get out of trouble in league two.

Last weekend marked their first cleansheet of the season when they drew 0-0 with Rotherham and David Stephens believes, as he told The Barnet and Potters Bar Times, that his partnership with Krystian Pearce could see this happen.

Both defenders arrived at Underhill last month and Stephens is now hoping that the cleansheet can be built upon under their pairing at the back: ‘We are doing well together and we both complement each other.

‘So we are delighted that we got our first clean sheet and hopefully we can build on it.

‘I think that for the team and the fans it is very important we kept our first clean sheet. I think the supporters can see that at times we have defended well but it hasn’t been consistent.

‘So we have now set a standard and hopefully now we can continue from that. I just want to keep as many clean sheets as possible this season and hopefully in doing that I can help the team climb up the league table.’

Stephens certainly talks up The Bees’ chances and if actions can follow these words then the club will be able to push-on – they definitely need to cut back on the goals conceded that’s certain!
