Barnet recently announced that Luisma Villa would, sadly, be leaving the club this summer so he could return to Spain.

Villa, a crowd favourite at the Hive, came to the club in 2013 having represented Racing Santander, Real UniĆ³n, Alaves, Amorebieta and Noja in his homeland and his two-years with the Bees were highly successful.

Not only did he end last season as the winner of the Goal of the Season, for an injury-time freekick against Alfreton back in September, that was added to his previous Most Improved Player award with him finishing as second top goalscorer behind John Akinde with 13 as we won the Conference title.

His exit comes due to personal reasons, with Martin Allen speaking glowingly about him on the Official Website but also about how he’ll be missed.

‘It is a shame to lose him but we have known for a while that he wanted to go back to Spain. We promised him that if we were champions then he could go back to Spain on a free transfer because he is missing his family and missing his partner.

‘He came in early to see me this morning and say thank you for everything, but he has decided now that he wants to go back to Spain so Luisma has left.

‘We will always be grateful for the fantastic impact that he had and it is a big loss because I think the absolute world of him on and off the field – he is a great guy and a really good player.’

A player that we’ll miss this season but we’ll remember fondly from his two-years at the club.
