Ismail Yakubu could be back as soon as next week-end’s trip to Brentford, as his groin injury is not as bad as first suspected.

It was orinally believed the captain would be out for four weeks, meaning he would miss games against Hereford Utd, Brentford, Braford and Dagenham & Redbridge but now the only match he is certain to miss out on is tomorow’s first home game of the season against the Bulls.

Yakubu sustained the injury during a training session on Monday but hopes are now high he can return for the game for the Bees, against the fake Bees, Brentford. Paul Fairclough told Barnet’s website, ‘he is making good progress,’ although a more realistc expected return date is the Bees’ second home game of the season, against relegated Bradford.

Also out of tomorow’s game is Neal Bishop who begins his three-match suspension after being shown red against Norwich, whilst Giuliano Grazioli could be given a spot on the bench.

Whilst Yakubu is out, vice-captain and fellow central defender Sagi Burton wears the armband, like he did in the Carling Cup defeat, but he could also miss tomorow’s game to stand-by his pregnant wife’s side when she gives birth to their expected child which is due ‘now’ says Fairclough.

Burton says he’s comforted knowing the hospital is not too far from Underhill so if fans see him being substituted at any point in the match, that is almost certainly the reason!
