Sagi Burton is nearing signing a contract with Barnet.
Burton has been on trial with the Bees since the beginning of pre-season more than a week ago and has impressed manager Paul Fairclough will solid performances in training as well as against Arsenal and QPR.
The experienced 29 year old Burton was released by Shrewsbury Town at the end of last season despite being a regular centre-back throughout the season. However he lost his place near the end of the season and was forced to miss out on the club’s play-off final against Bristol Rovers.
Paul Fairclough confirmed to Barnet’s website ‘I hope to sign Sagi,’ and that will please supporters who turned out to Barnet’s annual pre-season fixture against the Gunners, who saw the solid centre-back put in an excellent display.
Apart from captain Lee Harrison, the club has no experienced players and the club’s staff and supporters all know the importance of having experience in the squad after Andy Hessenthaler and Paul Warhurst with the players who ultimately saved Barnet from relegation one year after gaining promotion to League Two.
