Barnet suffered a seventh defeat in eight games on Tuesday when Exeter were the latest side to beat them.

Mark Robson, usually praising his troops, admitted he was “disappointed” with the performance not up to the standard he’d expect: ‘I was disappointed, I just felt we didn’t do enough as a group. We were a bit naive both in terms of some of the younger players and the older players.

‘Overall it needs to be better, especially after a couple of decent performances.’

Southend, as tough as it will be, is one that he knows The Bees desperately need to win: ‘They are all tough games, there are no easy games in this division so Southend will be a tough game.

‘For all our possession we never cut them open and we need to roll our sleeves up and go into a battle with Southend – we need to win a game. I hope it will be on Saturday because we need to get that win.’
