After a weekend defeat, coupled with a heavy league cup defeat before that, a reaction against Bristol Rovers was needed by Barnet.

This is what Mark Robson got following a 1-1 draw at Underhill, which left him pleased to get “up and running” for the season: ‘It was a good point in the end because it gets us up and running – and that’s exactly what we needed after Saturday.’

The Bees boss was really happy with what he saw from his side with him unable to fault the “attitude and commitment”.

He knows that if this can be maintained Barnet will be a difficult proposition for sides in this division: ‘I can’t fault their attitude and commitment to the cause. They’re a great bunch of lads who want to fight for each other. That team spirit will go a long way throughout the season.

‘We’ve got it in abundance and I’m sure we can only get better. There was lots to be positive about in the first half and if we can do it for 90 minutes it will be difficult for teams to come here and get something.’

Getting up and running is all well and good but Robson will now be looking to his side to build on this, starting at the weekend.
