Barnet were well and truly beaten by Birmingham in the Capital One Cup, after it all started so brightly for The Bees.

Jon Nurse (31) got Barnet off to a great start putting the visitors ahead just after the half hour mark but a Marlon King (38) penalty brought Birmingham level before the break.

Two quick goals after the interval from Steven Caldwell (49) and Darren Ambrose (54) put the Championship side in control with injury-time goals from Peter Lovenkrands (90+1) and Wade Elliott (90+4) seeing The Bees beaten 5-1 in the end.

Barnet were always the underdogs in this one and had they got through to half time ahead perhaps things would have been different?

This is something that will never be known, nevertheless the positives to take from this will be looked for as The Bees prepare to kick-off the league two season.
