Having been named the LFE Young Apprentice of the Year 2013 for League Two George Sykes is now targeting being part of the Barnet first-team squad again before the season ends.

Sykes, like any youngster, has dreams of playing at “the highest level” but it hopeful that he can get some first-team action again before the season is out, having made his debut in August.

However, as he told the official website, youth and development football is what he probably expects but hopes if he does the business at those levels that will get him noticed: ‘With six matches left this season I would like to be involved with the first-team as much as possible but my main focus is to keep playing well in the youth and development teams.

‘If I do that hopefully the first-team management will notice me and I will get the opportunity to be involved in the squad.’

The striker could well get a run out in the final games of the season, however all the while Barnet continued to be embroiled in the League Two relegation scrap Edgar Davids is highly unlikely to give him that chance.

If/when survival is secured I’m sure that the Scottish striker will be given a bit of pitch time.
