The new first-year professionals previously spoken about, that Ross Eames will overlook, were announced this week with no fewer than eight academy products putting pen to paper on one-year deals.

The scholars made such an impression that they’ll now be given the chance over the next year, initially, to prove themselves worthy of a longer stay in the professional game with Barnet.

Looking to make inroads into Martin Allen’s first-team squad are defenders Joe Gater, Charlie Kennedy and Harry Taylor, our youth team captain from last season and also our Academy Player of the Year.

Midfielders Wesley Fonguck and Fumnaya Shomotun have also signed on along with attacking trio Justin Nwogu, Ryan Gondoh and Shane Cojocarel, the latter managed a return of 23-goals for the U18 side last season.

Already confirmed on a full time professional contract, that also takes him through until next summer, back in January was defender Tamille Roache.

Unfortunately not all players make it do they so we’re saying goodbye to the following scholars, who haven’t been offered contracts.

‘Keeper Jack Ryan is joined by defenders Keir Dickson and George Berkes, midfielders Elliot Harris, Mohammed Diaby, Alfie Cain and Jhonnatan Castiblano as well as forwards Brian Testolin and Jake Knight in moving on.

Announced as second-year scholars are ‘keeper Kai McKenzie-Lyle, defenders Brendan Ocran and Hakeem Odofin, midfielders Jack Taylor, Nana Kyei and Louie Leong and forwards Mathew Stevens, George Booker and Carlito Lawton.

Joe Payne, Ephron Mason-Clark, Daniel Cheema, Aaron Grimshaw and Darnell Smith have all become first-year scholars!

Some bright young talent coming through isn’t there but of course we wish those well that haven’t made the grade with us.
