Barnet’s League 2 season continued with a three-nil defeat to Northampton at the Sixfields Stadium on Saturday.

Sam Hoskins had Northampton ahead early on with Adam Smith denying John Akinde an equaliser with Curtis Weston also going close as Barnet threatened with second half goals from Ricky Holmes and Marc Richards securing the points for the Cobblers.

The above video shows the highlights from this game.

These were the other results.

Saturday 2nd January 2016
Bristol Rovers 2-0 Luton
Cambridge 1-4 Wimbledon
Carlisle 0-2 Plymouth
Exeter 1-2 Dag & Red
Mansfield 2-3 Accrington
Newport P-P Hartlepool
Northampton 3-0 Barnet
Notts County 2-4 Oxford Utd
Portsmouth 3-0 Crawley
Stevenage 2-2 Leyton Orient
Wycombe 0-2 Morecambe
Yeovil 1-0 York

Those battling at the top end of the table all started the New Year with wins, leaders Plymouth beating Carlisle two-nil at Blackburn’s Ewood Park, with Northampton (as we know), Oxford and Portsmouth winning three-nil, four-two and three-nil against Barnet, Notts County and Crawley respectively.

Dagenham and Yeovil both gave their survival bids a boost with two-one wins over Exeter and one-nil wins over York respectively but the likelihood over the second half of the season would seem to be it’ll be two from three of these that drop out of the Football League.

Barnet are back in action at the weekend with Bristol City the visitors.
