Barnet’s League 2 season continued with a two-nil win over Newport at the Hive on Boxing Day.

A measure of revenge was gained by Barnet to the FA Cup exit against Newport earlier in the month when John Akinde scored a second half brace, the clincher coming in the last minute with Medy Elito sent off for fouling Aaron McLean as Akinde opened the scoring from the spot.

These were the other results.

Saturday 26th December 2015
Dag & Red 0-3 Cambridge
Accrington P-P Carlisle
Wimbledon 0-0 Bristol Rovers
Barnet 2-0 Newport
Crawley 2-1 Stevenage
Hartlepool P-P Notts County
Leyton Orient 3-2 Portsmouth
Luton 0-2 Wycombe
Morecambe P-P Mansfield
Oxford Utd 3-0 Exeter
Plymouth 1-0 Yeovil

A few postponements but Plymouth and Oxford didn’t have this problem with Exeter seen off three-nil by the U’s with their (Exeter’s) rivals Argyle collecting three-points from Yeovil to extend their lead at the top.

Portsmouth’s own promotion bid suffered a setback with three-two defeat at Leyton Orient, who revived their own play-off bid winning at Brisbane Road.

Barnet are back in action at the weekend with a game at Cambridge.
