Joe Devera has signed a new long-term contract with the club following a very successful first season as a professional footballer.

Devera, 20, was understudy to Ian Hendon for the first half of last season before he was given opportunities in the first team and impressed both the management and supporters. He kept his starting place in the team for the latter stages, making 29 appearances, and was also a help in being cover when injuries took their toll at centre-back.

Resultantly, he won the 2006/07 Young Player of the Year and now he has committed his long-term future to the club, although Barnet have not revealed the length of the contract.

Devera has had injuries problems so far in pre-season but will play a big role in the defence, despite his age, this season and will be Paul Fairclough‘s first-choice right-back.
