Marciano Mengerink showed in pre season just what he can do, and this is what earned him a contract with Barnet.

In the opening weeks of the conference season the Dutch striker has had to be content with action from the bench, and it was from the bench that he made his greatest impact to date, playing a key role in the 3-3 draw at Aldershot on Tuesday night.

His first goal for the club started the comeback, and that goal was a relief not only to the fans (as it kick started the fightback) but to the striker himself too, who now hopes more will follow.

Mengerink told the Harrow Observer: ‘I was really happy that I could get my first goal for Barnet. I’m very pleased.

‘Hopefully, we will see the start of more goals.’

The impact that the striker made gives him the chance of a stating role at the weekend, more so given the news that Jake Hyde will face a few more weeks on the sidelines with an injury.

At times you can try too hard, I think he was in that category but with that goal now scored he should be able to play with less pressure and more freedom and I’d not bet against that pre season goalscoring form now being carried into the conference season.

Let us know at Vital Barnet if you would you agree?
