Cambridge United’s bid to sign Liam Hatch has been halted as Barnet turn down their offer.

Cambridge tabled an offer for the striker last week and United Chairman Lee Power claimed the offer was ‘significant’ because they wanted to secure the services of their number one transfer target in the search of a striker to add to the ranks at Abbey Stadium.

But Barnet have rejected the offer for the now transfer-listed striker who is expected to leave for a Blue Square Premier side after he failed to agree a new contract with the club, with the Bees claiming the offer for the number 7 was ‘small.’

The front-runners to buy Hatch are Conference sides Burton Albion and Rushden & Diamonds although any deal may not be completed in time for the start of the season which is now five days away. Barnet do have, however, until 31 August to agree a deal with another club to sell Hatch, before the summer transfer window closes.
