Gillingham’s promotion hopes took a battering today after a very disappointing defeat at home to lowly Barnet.

In spite of Barnet’s good record against the Division’s top sides, a superb point at Brentford last weekend, added to a run of only 1 defeat in 10, meant the Gills would have expected this afternoon’s clash with the Bees to contribute more points towards their push for promotion.

However, goals from veteran Paul Furlong and John O’Flynn saw Barnet walk away with all three points, with the lacklustre Gills, who rarely threatened, comfortably beaten.
