Paul Fairclough has completed the free transfer signing of Sagi Burton
The experienced Burton, who left Shrewsbury Town after not being offered a contract at the end of last season, was taken by Fairclough on trial and has been training with the Bees since the beginning of pre-season preparations ahead of the 2007/08 campaign. He impressed with solid performances against Arsenal and QPR and Fairclough knew he was the man to fill the void left by Simon King after the Gunners game.
But Fairclough was keen to stress that Burton has ‘different qualities’ to the ever-popular and talented Simon King.
Burton’s full name is Osagyefo Lenin Ernesto Burton-Godwin and at 29 years of age, has made almost 300 caps in his career plus appearances for his international side, Saint Kitts and Nevis. He will be coming up against his old club, Crystal Palace, this afternoon lining up alongside Ismail Yakubu who he partnered well against the Premiership side last week.
The new signing, who become’s Fairclough’s seventh for the summer, told Barnet’s website ‘I am looking forward to this new challenge,’ having helped Stockport reach the play-off final last season.
Although it has not been officially announced, it seems as though Burton will be given the no. 17 shirt.
