Conor Clifford, a former youngster with Chelsea and Leciester that came to Barnet on loan from Southend last season, had said he wanted to return to the Hive but this hasn’t yet happened.

We’ve had no decision, one way or the other, as to what the future will be for him but Martin Allen did tell the Times-Series following our five-three defeat to Crystal Palace on Saturday he’ll be speaking with him today.

Allen wasn’t giving much away though when asked what the future held for Clifford and a Bees return.

‘I will have to find out, I will have a chat with Conor on Monday and he will speak to the chairman over the weekend. Then we will see how that one pans out.’

Not much given away at all….

Clifford said earlier in the summer he was keen to sign on a permanent basis following his release by Southend after his successful loan and the 23-year-old had been training with us but, unlike Michael Nelson who had been doing likewise, he didn’t feature against Palace.

Does this suggest he isn’t coming back to the Hive?

With Shaun Batt signed last week any hope of John Akinde’s younger bother Sam getting a deal, with him scoring in our six-one win over Hungerford Town last week, ended.

Akinde had been training with us but Allen added, as much as he was impressed by him, he’s not training with us any longer as we can’t carry the extra numbers with the budget unable to stretch to his addition too.

‘I won’t be able to do anything for Sam at the moment. We have not got the budget to extend it.

‘Sam is a good player but we don’t work to work with a big squad. We have ten in our development squad with Ross (Eames) so at the moment there is no room for Sam. There is no gap for him to get a contract.’

This could yet be something we look at some point in the future?
