Martin Allen has confirmed, with his comments carried by the Times-Series, Barnet have made a change of captain.

Curtis Weston came into the season as Barnet captain but he’s been replaced by Andy Yiadom, who takes the armband worn by Charlie MacDonald, who was released in the summer.

Yiadom, who was vice captain anyway, has now stepped up with Allen of the opinion that taking the armband away from Weston, which isn’t ‘a punishment’, will benefit the former Gillingham man, will enable the midfielder to focus on his form again, which has struggled.

Allen said.

‘To help Curtis Weston, who’s done a very good job, I’ve changed the captain.

‘Andy Yiadom will now be the captain. I’ve explained to Curtis my reasoning and my thought process is to help him concentrate on his own game.’

With Yiadom ‘absolutely superb’ since his arrival at Barnet Allen feels he can ‘definitely handle’ the captaincy.

Allen added he’s a ‘model professional’ so he’s got no doubts he’s the right options going forward and this will benefit all concerned.

‘He’s been spot on since I`ve been here, absolutely superb for the football club. So it’s a big step up for Yids but one he can definitely handle.

‘He’s a model professional on and off the field and he’ll do really well for us.’

If this is in the best interests of Barnet, and these two Bees players, it was a move that had to be made wasn’t it!
