Martin Allen, talking to the Times-Series, has talked up the quality of Kevin Lisbie, who he feels can ‘fill the void’ left by the departure of Luisma Villa in the summer.

The Spaniard, who scored 13-goals in 33-matches last season as Barnet marched to the Conference title, left to return to his homeland in the summer with Allen often asked when he would ‘sign a new Luisma?’

Allen feels he has one in Lisbie with the veteran striker ticking all the boxes needed so his return from a pre-season hamstring injury, which shouldn’t be too far away, can’t come soon enough.

‘I think it’s impossible to say how much we’ve actually missed him because we can’t say he would have scored the opportunities we’ve had.

‘It’s not only that. He is influential, he is a calming character and he’s got skill and qualities we’re just a little bit short of through the middle of the pitch and he will bring those.

‘I don’t know how many times people asked me: ‘Why haven’t you signed a new Luisma?’ Well Kevin will bring some of those skills he’s got into the starting XI.’

36-year-old Lisbie; signed on a free from Leyton Orient in the summer but yet to make his competitive debut for Barnet, did return to training on Friday so he should be back in action in the coming weeks?

All being well!
