Fairclough is said to want ‘three more’ players to add to his small squad and the eight players who have come in this summer have all arrived on free transfers.

But Tony Kleanthous made a statement on the Barnet website in which he says he is backing all of Fairclough’s targets to strengthen the squad at Underhill.

The statement also revealed the position of the players Fairclough is looking to bring in. A goalkeeper and left-back as competition for Lee Harrison and Nicky Nicolau are obvious areas for improvement. Robert Beckwith is favourite to become Barnet’s second-choice goalie and should be offered a permanant deal after four clean sheets in pre-season friendlies. Meanwhile Barnet are in discussions with Kenny Gillet over a move from Caen.

Barnet are also after a left-sided centre-half with Sagi Burton, Ismail Yakubu and James Cole the only players protecting the goalkeeper. And Barnt are also chasing a striker after they failed to capture Ben Wright and he rejected Barnet’s offer for a better deal with Lincoln, especially with Giuliano Grazioli transfer-listed and Liam Hatch about to leave for a Conference club, it leaves the club with two forwards.
