Adam Birchall says confidence is high in the Barnet dressing room ahead of the new season, now just 2 days away.

Birchall scored his first goal of pre-season in the last friendly on the fitness-building part of the season and was happy to finally get on the scoresheet.

‘It’s about time I got off the mark,’ he told BBC London Radio. ‘Obviously as a striker you want score in pre-season before the season begins and seeing as this is the last game I’m delighted to get off the mark.’

Birchall is expected to be a regular starter for the Bees this season, especially since he is one of just four strikers at the club, two of whom – Giuliano Grazioli and Liam Hatch are transfer-listed, with the latter expected to move on within the next week – and should feature alongisde Anthony Thomas in the early parts of the campaign.

‘Tommo’s very lively and hopefully we can bond during the league season,’ Birchall said.

And Birchall revealed the confidence Paul Fairclough has instilled in the players ahead of the season opener at Morecambe, as the team aim for a top-seven finish and ultimately promotion. ‘That’s (the confidence) built up from the management all through the pre-season. I think it’s gone well for us and I think it’s important to be confident in each other’s abilities going into the season.’
