Paul Fairclough says he’s ‘optimistic’ ahead of a new campaign begining at Christie Park at 3:00 PM tomorow.

He says that hopes that by May Barnet will find themselves celebrating promotion to League One.

Barnet ended their pre-season friendlies with a 4-0 win over Histon and Fairclough was happy with the end-of-season performances against St. Albans, Watford and Histon.

‘It’s always good to finish pre-season on a winning streak and there were a lot of pluses there today. We scored four goals, we’ve kept a clean sheet against a team who are just one league below us, so it’s a good end to the run of games now.’

‘We can use this week to bed in lots of other things we’ve been looking at throughout the season,’ he told BBC London Radio.

‘I’m really excited. We had a very good performance against St. Albans and had a great 60 minutes against Watford in midweek where I felt we were more than equal to them; in fact in the first 45 minutes we were better than them. We’ve had a great day today (against Histon). We’re ready. We’ve got work to be done this week and apply ourselves with just Morecambe in hand.’

‘I believe that if I can keep this small squad fit we may cause some surprises this season.’
