It’s not just about the players we’ve signed and those we want to bring in that’s important this summer it’s also about those that have brought us back to the Football League and keeping those.

Elliott Johnson was a key figure in our title winning side last season and he’ll be expected to be a regular in the Barnet side under Martin Allen this season too, we’ll expect this next season at least following the announcement on the Official Website a contract extension has been signed.

His new deal will take him through until the summer of 2017 at least.

Upon signing this he said.

‘I am chuffed. I think that the club is going in the right direction and I am happy to commit my future to them.

‘I think the manager has put his confidence in me and reassured me this year that even after bringing in some new players to improve the squad he is happy for me to keep that left-back position as long as I keep my performances up.’

At 20 to have played over 100-matches for us already says it all about the left back, who made 45 appearances last season alone as we marched away with the Conference title.

The Youth product has some experience of first-team football in the Football League with us before we we’re relegated but he feels the time in Non-League Football has made him a stronger footballer that will thrive back in League 2.

Given the confidence we gained last season, which also brought momentum, added to the arrivals we’ve seen he’s backing us to push up the table and not be battling at the foot of it, adding.

‘Off the back of last season and with the new signings that we have brought in we have a lot of confidence and everybody is going to be pushing for the top of the table rather than scrapping at the bottom.’

I think Elliott could be right, above all else though getting him tied down to a contract extension is great news and another boost heading into the season.
