Barnet were well and truly spanked by Watford in a “behind-closed-doors” last minute arranged pre-season friendly on Wednesday.

Half time arrived with The Bees trailing seven-nil! Although the second 45-minutes were much better for Barnet with only the one goal conceded, Watford still ran out eventual 8-0 winners.

Of course defeat, and a defeat of such a nature is a setback and Mark Robson, talking to the official website, admitted as much: ‘we didn’t look as sharp as we have been throughout pre-season and we can learn some valuable lessons from this game.

‘We need to look at how we press the opposition as a team, rather than individually, something that Watford did very well today.’

Results aren’t the key to pre-season, something that is always stressed whatever the result, but defeats like this will not help but lessons would have been learned (you would hope) and fitness levels at least boosted.
