Barnet’s preparations for our return to the Football League kicked-off with us securing a convincing six-one win over Hungerford Town recently!

Martin Allen took the chance to name a different XI in each half, both sides blended youth and experience but the underlining fact was the name of Akinde with the brothers scoring no less than four of the goals between them.

Last season’s Player of the Year, and of course top goalscorer, John Akinde was handed the captaincy and he got things going with the opening goal converting a penalty he won with Akinde also adding the second with a six-minute hat-trick complete soon after!

Stefan Brown got one back for Hungerford before Sam Togwell’s stunning goal when he saw the ‘keeper off his line.

Youth player Mathew Stevens added the fifth in the second half with Sam Akinde getting in to make it six, and four for the Akinde brothers, to finish things off.

Barnet XI (first half): Kai McKenzie-Lyle; Gavin Hoyte, Bondz N`Gala, Tamille Roache, Sam Muggleton; Mauro Vilhete, Fumnaya Shomotun, Sam Togwell, Luke Gambin; John Akinde, Michael Gash.

Barnet XI (second half): Chris Haigh; Andy Yiadom, Joe Gater, Bira Dembele, Elliott Johnson; Justin Nwogu (Harry Taylor 70), Curtis Weston, Tom Champion, Ben Tomlinson; Mathew Stevens, Sam Akinde.
