It wasn’t just Barnet that stepped up a level last season, MK Dons did this as well, and they were the latest pre-season opponents on Saturday with the Bees stinging Karl Robinson’s side.

MK Dons will be playing in the Championship this season, following Barnet’s Conference title win last time round of course it’ll be League 2 for them and as this moves closer Martin Allen will take his troops into this off the back of a three-one win over Robinson’s side.

Akinde, who looks like he’ll be carrying on his goalscoring form from last season this time round, bagged himself a first half hat-trick in the win at the Hive!

Literally from the off Barnet were ahead with Akinde winning the ball going on to curl past MK Dons ‘keeper Martin but in a frantic start a penalty went MK Dons’ way with Bowditch fouled. Church stepped up to make it one-one.

Barnet’s lead was restored when Akinde struck once more with Jones in the Bees goal keeping it that way until he was beaten by Bowditch, but MK Dons had this second equaliser chalked off.

Presented with the chance to complete a first-half hat-trick Akinde made no mistake when he ran thorough to beat Martin again to complete the scoring, however MK Dons Powell saw an effort hit not one but both posts in the second half!

On the hat-trick hero Allen has back Akinde to shine on his return to the Football League, telling Get West London.

‘John Akinde will be on fire, there’s no doubt about that.

‘I think it (the return to professional football) was a bit of a wake-up call for him really?he has stepped up and looks happy to be playing for Barnet.’
