Barnet’s first competitive game at the Hive, and the Chester FC’s first in the top flight of non-league, ended with the Bees running out winners on Saturday.

Edgar Davids, who gave himself the squad number of one, wasn’t in the squad with the Dutch master preferring to look on.

What he saw in the first half was stalemate…

It took Barnet just a minute to breakthrough in the second half though with Luke Gambin (46) making no mistake.

Jake Hyde might be seeking a return to the football league but a quick fire double from the striker (63 & 73) left the Bees in complete control. The chance of a hat-trick wasn’t given Hype though with him withdrawn before the end.

Chester FC, the club formed when Chester City were liquidated. might have been beaten 3-0 but they’ve made a rapid climb through the non-league scene with three consecutive promotions since their formation when Chester ceased to exist in 2010 and I wish them well.
