With just three matches to play, and Barnet just three points off the drop zone, Lawrie Sanchez has been sacked with Martin Allen returning as manager with immediate effect.

Friday’s 1-1 draw with relegation rivals Hereford cost Sanchez his job with Allen, as a statement on the official website announced, appointed on a short-term contract until the end of the season: ‘Barnet FC would like to announce that a new manager has been appointed to take over the running of the first team until the end of the season.

‘The manager, who will replace Lawrie Sanchez as of immediate effect, will be Martin Allen. He will take charge for the last three games of the 2011-12 season.’

Allen has twice managed The Bees in the past but famously walked out on the club three games into an eight match contract last year to take over at Notts County, who sacked him in February 2012.
