Fresh from the reports John Akinde could move on he’s signed a new deal with Barnet, at least the Bees have taken up the option they had on him and extended his contract by another year.

Martin Allen told the Official Website.

‘I’ve had a chat with John Akinde and I’ve informed him that the club are taking up the option on his contract. We’re happy and he’s delighted. It’s good news all round, and that should now settle everybody down.’

Akinde, who has scored 11-goals this season alone, has a strike rate better of one-goal every other game but if reports are correct his time with Barnet could be coming to an end with Championship interest being shown in him by Wolves? Not that this new deal will end such thoughts?

Former Bristol City and Portsmouth striker Akinde scored plenty of goals last season to see the Bees to the Conference title with the 26-year-old chipping in with a fair few this term too but claims had been made in the media earlier this week he was set to leave the Hive for Wolves!

Akinde wasn’t in the squad that faced Carlisle recently but Martin Allen has been insistent, talking to Get West London, ‘a tight hamstring’ was behind his omission with the boss playing down talks of a move to Molineux.

These are rumours that have seemingly come out of nowhere; we’ll see in the coming days how accurate they prove to be!
