PROTEC lads sign on

Barnet have already made their first signings of the close season by picking up 2 youngsters from the PROTEC Academy, an academy for young players not picked up by professional clubs by the age of 16 which is affiliated to Barnet FC.

One of the names will already be familiar to Barnet fans – that of Joe Tabiri – an 18 year old central midfielder who has impressed for the Bees this season in the Hertfordshire Senior Cup and has also been on the bench for several league games, although never actually making it onto the pitch. He also spent part of the season on loan at Farnborough and was very impressive during his first taste of senior football. He has signed a 2 year contract.

The other signing is Elliott Charles. He is described as PROTEC’s youngest ever professional signing and was a year behind Tabiri at PROTEC, although he also signed on for 2 years. He plays up front and scored 20 goals last season for PROTEC’s U18 side.

Both players will be hoping to emulate the only other PROTEC graduate to cement a regular place in the Barnet 1st team – the newly crowned Player of the Year, Joe Devera.

While these signings may not be the most exciting, Tabiri is highly rated by Bees boss Paul Fairclough and given his recent track record with young talent, they may well both come to flourish in the years to come.
